About this instrument
This one is currently in the Key Works workshop. Like every instrument we sell, it will be fully serviced, adjusted and regulated before it goes on sale, then play tested so we know it's ready to go straight from the case. More photos will be added here once it's finished.
The headjoint is solid sterling silver, which gives a noticeably warmer, more colourful sound than a plated headjoint, with a quicker, more responsive feel under the embouchure. The body and keys are silver-plated, keeping the look consistent while the silver headjoint does the work of shaping the tone. The closed-hole keys are forgiving for developing hand positions, since there's no need to seal each hole perfectly to get a clean note, and the offset G key sits closer to a natural hand position, reducing strain during longer practice sessions. The split E mechanism makes the notoriously tricky third-octave E far easier to produce cleanly, useful as playing moves into higher registers. The C foot keeps the instrument compact and well balanced in the hand.
