Hi, I'm Jonathan -

Welcome to Key Works!

Based here in Dorset, I run Key Works -

a specialist woodwind repair workshop, with the invaluable support of my wife, Emily.

My journey to the repair bench combines a passion for music with a deep background in technical problem solving. I hold a BSc from the Open University and bring years of hands-on engineering experience alongside my time working as a professional bicycle mechanic.

Before launching the workshop, I formalised my craft by training under industry masters Trevor Head and Lynne Williams. I am also a member of NAMIR.

As a keen brass player myself (playing trombone, euphonium, and tuba), I’ve always understood exactly how an instrument needs to feel, sound, and respond.

To ensure every repair meets the highest possible standard, Emily handles our Quality Control. As a professional freelance saxophonist, she personally play tests and advises on every single instrument before it leaves the workshop.

Together, we bring a precise engineering mindset, a keen eye for detail, and a genuine care to our work, ensuring your instrument is returned to you in its absolute best playing condition.
